Week 4 – Destiny: Where are we going to go when we die?

Is there life after death? If there is, what will that be like? From a completely human perspective it would appear as though this life is all there is. When you die, you're dead. The end. In the Scriptures, however, we discover that death was not a part of God's original plan for the world, that death is God's judgment against sin. That makes death frightening and ugly, but God found a way to destroy death forever. We now look forward to Paradise restored!

Morality:What is good?

Who determines what’s right and wrong? Shouldn’t each individual have the right to determine that for himself or herself? That sounds good to me. That seems to be the most fair system. But as good as that might sound, how does that worldview actually work out in the real world? Is morality subjective or objective? A scriptural worldview makes no bones about it. The Creator calls the shots. And as we’ll see today, that’s a much better thing for us!

Meaning: Why are we here?

Am I here to have fun? Am I here to somehow make the world a better place? Is there no way for me to know why I'm really here? The answers we com up with seems so, well. meaningless. But when the Bible talks about why we're here, it makes sense. I begin to see that I have meaning and purpose that reaches far beyond myself and this broken world.

Am I here by chance? A random lucky draw of the straw? Is there nothing special about me other than the fact the genetic mutations of my ancestors produced the "me" I am today? Is mankind nothing more than the most highly developed animal? God says, "No." God says that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. That changes everything, doesn't it? "Where did I come from?" is on of the four questions that every worldview needs to be able to answer. In our service, we'll see how to build our worldview about our origins from God's Word.

North, south, east, and west, Christ's work on the cross is not restricted to one people or group, but is for all people of all nations. His atoning sacrifice stretches out across the globe. So his word is aimed at every corner of the planet, as God "desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4). Christ has united, unites today, and will unite people every tribe, race, and nation around him as his followers!

Don’t Fret the Future

How easy it is to become anxious when things go differently than we had hoped. We worry about ourselves and our loved ones. Sometimes anxiety can become so serious that professional help is needed. Paul writes in Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.' Easier said than done, Paul! Jesus invites us to let anxiety be. Concerning the things most of us worry about-like food, and clothing- Jesus observes that just as the birds, the lilies, and the grass are well-provided for, we will be taken care of as well. The adventure of life is one of faith: entrusting ourselves to the care of God, seeking first God's reign, and experiencing the rich provision enjoyed by all of creation as a gift. As followers of Jesus, we have no need to fret the future!

Know the Real Value of Earthly Treasure

Many people plan their lives with one thought in mind: “I need to become wealthy.” While the money we have is a gift from God, earthly wealth is meaningless without God. The meaning of life cannot be found in the abundance of earthly possessions, but in the abundance of heavenly blessings. As followers of Jesus, we recognize that everything the world seeks and offers is meaningless. Rather, by God’s help and power, we seek to set our hearts on the treasure that is only found in the fullness of Christ; the only treasure that lasts forever. Sermon Text: Luke 12:13-21

Theme: Prioritize Time at Jesus' Feet

Text: Luke 10:38-42

People are busy these days. Whether it's tasks for work, the rigors of school, running your kids to another game or practice, completing the 'honey-do" list or trying to find enough time to fit in your hobbies, we're busy. The busyness of life can very easily lead us to become distracted from that which is truly the "one thing most needful." In the account of Mary and Martha, we're once again reminded of the importance of prioritizing time simply spent sitting at the feet of Jesus and wrapping our busy, stressed selves in the peace only his Word can give! Followers prioritize spending time at Jesus' feet, because we know that's the only place that real rest can be found!
